Getting Started in the Remodeling Process

Our first contact with you will typically be over the phone or at one of the trade shows. We discuss your ideas for the project, as well as provide feedback and thoughts on your project.

Our next step is to set up a meeting so that one of our Design Consultants can provide a complimentary visit with you in your home. We will listen closely to your ideas, goals and priorities, discuss the scope of the project in greater detail, and provide possible solutions, a realistic budget range and a schedule. We do recommend that you discuss your budget prior to your first meeting.  This will be helpful in determining whether the full extent of your vision and goals can be attained.

The next step is to enter into a Design and Project Development Agreement. In this phase, our Director of Design will field measure your home, photograph the existing conditions and further discuss and refine your goals and how we might achieve them.  We create conceptual drawings, floor plans, elevations and material selection recommendations and review those on a large screen in our conference room.   We also work with you on selection of products, as well as any research on zoning, ordinance requirements and structural requirements.  There is a fee for this work based on the anticipated project investment.

Once the final design is established, we have a "walk-thru" of your home with all of the key people that will be involved in  your project: mechanical contractors,  trade associates, our Project Manager and Director of Design.  This experienced group of professionals will consult with you individually and verify the feasibility of the project and provide recommendations to provide the best design, products and budget solutions for you.  Our staff or interior designers will guide you through the product selection process meeting at various area showrooms in finalizing your selections reflecting your personal style.

The final phase is to gather all of the information that has been generated including product selection and develop the construction agreement that reflects a fixed investment dollar for your project.  We review those documents and plans with you to ensure that you fully understand all aspects.

The emphasis on this entire process is a high level of communication, trust and establishing a good relationship. This is how you and the S.J. Janis Company can transform your home into what it was meant to be.
